First Impression: (3/5) There’s only one thing I dislike more than the “I hate myself and want to die” template – it’s the celebrity template. In all honesty I think they’re tacky and say very little about you yourself. The brushwork on the image is nice, the colors match, the font has some issues, and the quote seems out of place, but age appropriate.
Errors/Cohesions: (2/10)
-On this page you need to make a distinction with names (I suggest making them bold and putting a line break in).
-On that same page you also need to make the cast page more of a description, less of a yearbook. Because if I’m reading and go, “huh, who’s Chelsea” and click on cast I feel like the information you’ve provided doesn’t help.
-You have two links for design. Interesting.
-Your font and your tag line aren’t the same (that quote, a tagline) is in what looks like TW Century Gothic or something similar, you’re writing and designing in comic sans). This is nothing you can really change (lest you find which font that tag was made in and change your code to be that) but rather a fault in the design.
-Your index and your older page have different templates. Ironically my old template for this site, so I’m a bit partial, but still, they need to match.
-I think I’ve found out the mystery. You are running this off of two different sites (how did I not notice this). This is not only bad for cohesion, but when I’m on say your “100 things” page and I click “old” it goes to your old old template with limes. And thus when I click around the links just don’t match. Move to one site.
-Your previous and next links…don’t work. They need actual code, ya know? With the %% and all.
-Your guestbook page also doesn’t match your template.
Navigation: (7/10) Two designer links. Your links should look as follows: new, old, contact, extra, design, hostess. You’ll need to create two new pages, contact and extra. Everything that is like email, guestbook, aim or whatnot needs to go on that page (you already have a tag board front and center). On the extra page ORGANIZE your links and give them proper titles for example, { Xanga } (insert line break here) One of my other sites, this ends up being more of a dumping site for…etc. Just make sure an extras page is inviting and well organized, not just a list of links.
Layout: (30/50) First off, I don’t think celebrity templates are functional. They say so little about a person. Second the template is so close to the left edge that it looks like it’s almost falling over, it needs more spacing at the very least where your entry box is. It’s a left based design which is ok, but leave me wanting when it comes to all the unused space on the right side.
The colors on your tagboard, while close, are not the same. I prefer tag’s not to be on main pages but on another page so that people can still use them but they’re not getting in the way of your design (plus, and I’m not sure if you know this, but google checks on those sorts of things and links you off of their search engine so you’ll get a lot more hits from random sources, not always good ones).
Your colors do match, which is terrific, but I’d like to see a pop color for certain things. I would suggest not having your links bold before or after I click them (it’s in your coding) and I’d instead have them be a classy yellow-almost orange (the colors in her bag would be nice to pull from). You’ll need to keep it mellow, of course, but place it tastefully instead of all these shades of blue.
As for the font. Comic Sans should be removed from every windows version ever. It’s overused, and related to kindergarten teachers, and just too poppy. Pick a pretty more soft font, something like a Rockwell or a Gill Sans would look superb at that size. That’ll also make your links look better I feel. And when Comic Sans is bold? It makes every graphic designer want to cry on the inside. I swear.
Truly, I’m not intrigued by this layout, it’s not bad for plug and play, but definitely not the best out there.
Content: (15/25) I got frustrated with the inability to use the previous and next buttons. Usually I read almost everything but this time I just could bring myself to because the site is such a cohesive nightmare that it made it impossible to get through it without wanting to stab my own eyes.
In general what I did read (close to 30 entries) showed a lot of daylogging. To be honest most people (outside of your circle of friends) don’t want to read what you did that day. Or about your trip to target. Being a happy go lucky teenager is a-ok, you don’t need to be sad or depressed but I would like to see a little bit of emotion out of you. Or perhaps a daylog is all you want your journal to be. I’d just like to read more about what you think rather than what you did.
Final Score: (57/100)
