It’s my personal belief that while these little sites sitting on the internet are just that—a page on someone else’s server—it is your job, as the writer and artist, to make them the most seamless pieces of artwork you possibly can.
That’s why I’m here. My purpose is to help you improve. If your site looks unprofessional, doesn’t match, or isn’t damned near perfect—I’ll tell you. Most people are confused when they look at my scoring: yes, it’s a heavily design based site. But my job is to make your design seamless so your words (and the art that they are) won’t be detracted from. Re-reviews encouraged. First Impression(x/5): What your diary looks when I first glance at it is a big deal to me. And I honestly judge by it. If your colors make me want to cover my eyes and hide? Probably not a good score. Errors/Cohesion(x/10): Images missing? Links broken? Careless typing errors? Things just plain don't look or work right together? Navigation(x/10): Can I easily get around your site? I like things to be uniform and generally in one place. Don’t confuse me (‘cause that means your average audience member would be lost). Layout(x/50): I like things that look pretty. If your layout is self designed, points to you, but make sure it looks nice. In my opinion it’s not hard to make things look professional. No matter your theme (depressing, happy, thought provoking, cute) I’m all for it—as long as it’s designed well. There’s a reason this is worth the majority of your points. If you need help with making it look pretty, check out the Tips and Hints page where there's a list of great designers. Content(x/25): This is the second most important part, seeing as writing is an art. If you have multiple archive pages, I'll probably end up reading the first month, and then the 2 most recent months. If I really like it, I'll probably read more, and if I don't, I might read less. Depends. This is where I want to get to know the real you. Final Score: x/100 Favorite Quote: I care enough about your diary to tell you what I really liked, you’ll all receive one.| < | > |
